Female Representation in Primary School English Textbooks: The Portrait of Gender in Indonesian EFL Education

Scholars have critically discussed numerous reports on gender representations in language textbooks, but much less attention has been paid to female characters depicted EFL textbooks used Islamic primary schools. To fill this gap, the current study dissects identities of two English proposed by schools and nationally all private Indonesia under global school association. Quantitative content analysis using Brugeilles Cromer’s framework for character coding scheme critical discourse were review textbook’s content. The findings from sixteen chapters revealed that are underrepresented, they as having home family careers, being sensitive introverts, involved low-risk activities, wearing Islamic-based attire.
